Kent State President Todd Diacon named Lamar R. Hylton to the position of interim vice president for student affairs effective Sept. 16. He replaces Shay Little, who will move to an advisory role as special assistant to the president.
Hylton was hired as Kent State’s dean of students June 1, 2017.
Little joined Kent State in July 2012 as associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students
“I am grateful for Dr. Little’s unwavering leadership and contributions, and I look forward to her counsel in assisting my office with key issues impacting our students,” Diacon wrote in a letter to members of the Kent State community on Monday.
As the interim vice president for student affairs, Hylton will lead the Division of Student Affairs and oversee the Office of the Dean of Students, Center for Adult and Veteran Services.
Hylton will also oversee International Student Affairs, Kent State University Bookstores, Kent Student Center, Office of Student Conduct, Recreational Services, Residence Services, Student Accessibility Services, and more.
Prior to coming to Kent State, Hylton was the assistant vice provost for student affairs at the University of Minnesota for three years. He also served as the director of the Intercultural Center and the Office of Multicultural Student Programs at the University of North Carolina – Asheville from 2011 to 2014.
