Philanthropy Week and Alumni Day of Service have merged to unite Golden Flashes during the first annual Flashes Give Back Week.

The Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement is using Flashes Give Back Week to encourage the Kent State community to join in, give back and say thanks. The week of April 19-24 is a chance to celebrate all of the ways Flashes give back through their time, talent and treasure, said Danielle Hupp, senior associate director of communications and giving initiatives.

The Kent State community can ‘join in’ by registering for virtual volunteer opportunities, ‘give back’ by donating time or money and ‘say thanks’ by submitting notes of gratitude for members of the community who have made a difference.

“All of these things come together to equal the culture of philanthropy at Kent State,” Hupp said. “We want to highlight and educate people about the importance of philanthropy in all of its forms.”

The university is built upon land that was donated by William Kent many years ago, Hupp said.

“Kent State University is founded on philanthropy at its very beginning,” she said. “So, we wanted to kind of honor that and amplify that to our communities through Flashes Give Back Week.”
