Kent State (4-7, 1-4 Mid-American Conference) lost their final home meet of the 2021 season on Sunday, falling 195.725-194.675 to Ball State University (13-1, 2-1 MAC).

“We expected more from ourselves,” coach Brice Biggin said. “We need to come out with more emotion and more energy. We just started out flat from the beginning.”

Although the Flashes lost, their floor total of 49.350 was the team’s second highest of the season. KSU had four of the top five performers on floor. Senior Toshi Richard tied for first place with a 9.900. Senior Jade Brown, senior Abby Fletcher and sophomore Rachel DeCavitch all tied for third place on floor with a 9.875.

Freshman Kennedy Weinpert tied for second on vault with a 9.800, the second best score of her career.

“Toshi Richard had a great floor routine,” Biggin said. “Kennedy [Weinpert] had our best vault score, she had a really nice day.”

DeCavitch and junior Samantha Henry both tied for first on beam, with a score of 9.825.

DeCavitch finished first in the all-around competition with a 39.025.

Junior Madison Iannuzzo placed third on bars with a 9.750.

“It’s done and over with, we are not going to sit and dwell on our performance,” Biggin said. “We will focus on what we need to do to get ready for this week.”

The Golden Flashes will close their regular season at Bowling Green State University on Friday, March 12, at 5 p.m.

The MAC Championships will take place on Saturday, March 20, at 2 p.m., hosted by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
