Augusta

Pimnipa Panthong tees off at the Augusta National Women's Amateur Championship on April 4, 2019. She would finish 17th in the tournament.

Since 1999, there has only been one team to win the MAC championship every year.

That would be the Kent State women’s golf team..

On April 19-21, the women will look to win their 21st MAC title in a row at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.

Coach Greg Robertson has been proud of the team play this season.

“I have definitely been very happy with our performance,” Robertson said. “They have continued to improve throughout the year. Been solid week in and week out with our tournament play.”

Robertson, who has been Kent's coach for the past five years, mentioned this is the best golf team he has coached here at Kent State.

“This team had been the most consistent and most certainly as a whole from the first tournament,” Robertson said.

Despite this, Robertson is not taking the MAC Championship for granted.

“We have a talented group of players that have stepped up and delivered at different times this year,” Robertson said. “But you can’t show up and expect them to give you the trophy. In sports, anything can happen, and you got to show up, play for it and earn it.

“It’s got to be an effort from everybody. We got to show up physically and mentally prepared.”

Robertson elaborated on getting prepared further.

“We talked to them about not having any expectations but being prepared and having the right attitude,” Robertson explained. “We’re only in control of ourselves.”

Out of the MAC teams that will be competing this year in Indiana, Robertson highlighted a couple.

“Toledo and Northern Illinois,” Robertson said. “You could throw Ball State in there as well. They have had solid finishes this year. You have to go and compete hard. You never know what teams will show up and give you a challenge.”
